Vex Machine . The Machine is probably forever doomed to be Mr . Vex ’ s worst selling product , but it deserves more attention from any guitarist that likes to stack dirt . You see , the Machine is not designed to be used solo . On its own it is not very appealing or useful , because unlike a regular fuzz or distortion , it doesn ’ t mangle the peaks of the signal . It leaves them untouched while completely obliterating all the bits in between , resulting in a sound that kinda sucks on its own through a clean amp , but is unquestionably magical when paired with an already dirty one , or another distortion , overdrive , or fuzz box . It cuts through the hash like a katana through warm butter , lending a biting industrial attack and squirrelly compression to whatever it touches .
