Sometimes all you need is a couple of great pedals. I have two pedalboards—one large, and one relatively small. The large board can hold around 16 stompboxes, depending on pedal size. The smaller board can hold six or seven. As much as I love my mothership board, my favorite way to play is to take my smaller board, put a few carefully selected pedals on it, along with utilitarian items such as a tuner and volume pedal, and rock the night away. The less I have to deal with, the better, and forcing myself to get a variety of sounds through just a few tools helps me to be a better guitarist. What pedal pairs do you adore, and what sounds do you make with them? I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at perfect pedal partners, and I hope you go put some together for your next gig. Play on players! “Sometimes all you need is a couple of great pedals. I have two pedalboards—one large, and one relatively small.”
