However , sometimes they can also bring out the worst . Thankfully , the combination the two channels on the DLX is inspiring and responsive , and works with almost all settings . With the included switches for cutting , boosting , and flattening lows , mids , and highs , this pedal can really take on any of the more popular overdrive flavors . With a thicker low end , LED clipping and a flat midrange , it has a lot in common with a good RAT . The lows are nice and full , and the mids are hollow and react to your pick attack . The high end follows in turn , with dynamics that follow your playing . With more midrange , a slight bass roll-off , and silicon clipping , the DLX goes into Tube Screamer territory , with throatier and honkier mids . Adding a compressor before the DLX really helped bring out the fatness in its tone , and made the transients more prevalent . Perhaps one of my favorite settings was running a compressor before the DLX , having the DLX set close to a RAT , with a bit of delay . The compressor opened up the sound to play both soft and melodic blues licks on the neck pickup of my Strat , as well as lightning fast Bonamassa licks on the bridge pickup .
It ’ s hard to find anything wrong with this pedal , it ’ s an incredibly refined sound that you can tell was tweaked to no end until every frequency was perfect . While this is the pedal ’ s main selling point , some may not like it . While it still has the responsiveness and dynamics of a good pedal , some may not like the added compression on the inside . The added compression of course makes it sound and feel more tube-like , and at times the DLX can feel like a cranked Fender Deluxe or even an early Bassman . However , it is neither of those things when the rubber hits the road ; it is a musical device all of its own .
Compression in the circuit makes it sound bloomy and dynamic . Chameleon of overdrive tones with a slew of tone shaping options . Independent channels are always a plus .
May be a bit too “ refined ” for those seeking raw overdrive tones .
