With so many overdrives on the market today , it seems like there is a lot of overlap between the sorts of sounds covered between Tube Screamers , Rats , Klons , and everything in between . We see many a clone in today ’ s market , but in tandem with that we are also seeing several designs attempting to create something new , which is quite commendable , given the reverence for old gear we guitar players seem to have .
The Zeta DLX from Canadian pedal outfit SolidGoldFX is a combination boost and overdrive that attempts to break new ground in the overdrive territory , by providing a wide range of geeky options for guys like me to nerd out about . Switchable clipping modes , frequency response , as well as pre and post options for the boost channel . Like any good overdrive , it behaves and responds like a tube amp should , and the JFET boost side has a lot in common with many tube boosters I ’ ve tried , namely the full-range fatness it gives to the signal .
The Zeta DLX is really two pedals in one . I have been lamenting how I wish I could just use the channels of many “ dual ” pedals independently , and with the DLX my prayers have been answered . Both the boost and drive channels are independent , which means I can go ahead and boost other pedals with the boost channel , or stack the drive channel with another overdrive for those saturated ‘ 80s leads . The great thing about having two channels is that they can bring out the best in each other .
