Another classic originating in the 1996 – 98 Japan-built , Vista era is the Squier Super- Sonic . An interesting bit of trivia for old-school punk rockers : the Super-Sonic was originally designed by former SST Records co-owner and Mike Watt and Minutemen collaborator Joe Carducci , who was also a Fender product manager in the nineties . Rumor has it that he was inspired by a photo of Jimi Hendrix playing a flipped-over Fender Jaguar , and looking at the Super-Sonic , one can imagine that there ’ s probably at least a kernel of truth to this legend . It features an upside-down offset basswood body , a reverse headstock , and a cockeyed bridge humbucker that , taken all together , lend it an especially exotic punk rock flair . Like the Jagmaster , it was originally a short-scale instrument . Available finishes included a pair of eye-popping sparkle flake options . The Squier Super-Sonic was briefly reintroduced in 2013 as part of the Fender Pawn Shop line .
