I ’ m building a wall . . . but not one for humans , in fact , my purpose is quite the opposite . I ’ m building a wall of sound that strikes fear into the hearts of the hateful , blasting them into the ether . A sound of terrifying beauty that tantalizes , enlightens the senses and vibrates all impurities away from the body and soul . I want to invoke an immersive living sonorous entity that draws us toward a better future . I want to affect the listener with an oasis state of consciousness . To me the proverbial “ wall of sound ” is the best way to achieve these Heaven-high lofty aspirations . But how is such a wall built ? With our gift from the tone gods : effectology .
While not for everybody , the wall of sound can be necessary for single guitarists looking to fill out space in the mix of a power-trio . There are a million ways to achieve this , but contrary to popular belief , one doesn ’ t need a grotesquely overpopulated pedalboard to make a massive sound . In fact , some of the biggest sounds I have ever cast into a room have come from one guitar , one pedal and one amp . For this feature , I will reveal pedal-by-pedal my not-sosecret weapons for this purpose .
