with just the right amount of vibe and character .
To really go wild , I tried to completely change the sound of a fuzz pedal through my amp without touching the amp ’ s EQ or the pedal ’ s tone control . This thin and bright sounding fuzz pedal turned massive when I cranked the Bass control on the Colour Box , bringing it into almost Big Muff territory . Awesome !
I am a big fan of bass chorus . That subtle movement in the low end is just enough to keep things interesting in an otherwise spoken for part of the mix . My good friend Tom Burdett is playing bass , and I ran it through the Emperor module , adding a hollow , almost ringmod like modulation along with the standard chorus to keep things flowing .
For this clip , I ran Korg ’ s ARP Odyssey reissue through the Colour Box , in an attempt to fatten up this funky synth bassline and add a bit of saturation . The resulting sound was beautiful and massive , perfect for neo-funk tracks
JHS put a lot of time and thought into its 500 series modules , and the sound stands as testament . It ’ s big , it ’ s sexy , it ’ s beautiful , and it can more than hold its own on anything I threw at it .
