Donna ' s story
Ritchie was just 16 months old when his family received the devastating news that he had the life threatening condition , spinal muscular atrophy ( SMA ) type 2 , and there was a chance he wouldn ’ t reach his second birthday .
Mum Donna , says : “ Ritchie got up one day and it was like he ’ d had a stroke . It was like one side of his body had just ‘ gone ’. We rushed him to hospital and after having tests , the doctors told us the news . We were warned that physically he wouldn ’ t be able to do the things ‘ normal ’ people do , like feed and look after himself .”
