2014-15 Annual Report (July 1, 2014-June 30, 2015) In order to achieve its educational mission of preparing students for a changing world, a team of dedicated fundraisers—the Development Committee, the Board of Trustees, the staff of the Development Office, Class Agents, and alumni—work together to offer members of the Thornton community with opportunities to make a difference in students’ lives. The 2014-15 fiscal year was a banner year: • The Annual Fund had its best year in history ($312,247.09); • Past efforts to encourage planned giving resulted in generous bequests from the 1811 Society ($165,000); • A campaign raised funds for the new ScienceTechnology-Engineering-Math (STEM) Center addition to the Scamman Building ($234,599.34 plus an additional $229,381.84 in pledges for gifts over a five-year period). This generosity was timely. As a historic institution with a large, beautiful campus, Thornton Academy must continuously realign its classrooms with changes in 21st century technology and subject matter. With support from the community, the new STEM Center opened in September with several classrooms dedicated to generous donors and in honor of beloved teachers (read more on pgs. 9, 18). 8 Annual Appeal Designated Gifts Annual Auction ANNUAL FUND TOTAL $141,213.39 $74,698.70 $96,335.00 $312,247.09 1811 Society Commitments $20,000 1811 Society Bequests $145,000 1811 SOCIETY TOTAL $165,000 STEM Campaign Gifts $234,599.34 STEM Campaign Pledges $229,381.84 STEM TOTAL $463,981.18 ENDOWMENT GIFTS $20,000 THORNTON ACADEMY TRUSTEES Eric Purvis ’81 - President Earle Cianchette Vangel Cotsis ’85 Dr. Brian Dallaire ’75 Philip D.
