distinct in any manner . If one had to pick between the RGB madness and this understated design , the latter is definitely preferred . This is important as well because these headphones are supposedly meant to work with your mobile device as well , which means you just may be out and about with them . While they won ’ t make you stand out in anyway . They will not ridicule you via the rainbow madness that has captured peripheral and component manufacturers .
Sonically however , is where the rubber meets the road . This is where the CROSS will sell itself the most . What is apparent when you try these on for the first time , is the absence of any distinct signature or bias . It ’ s as if they have a perfectly flat frequency response right across the range . The sound is what you would expect from a set of cans at this price point . Of course , there are in-ear units that you can get from traditional audio equipment manufacturers that deliver a better low frequency , a warmer sound or better isolation , but they are many times not comfortable to game with and come with some other disadvantages such as poor or unusable microphones prone to noise . Certainly not the case with the CROSS mic ( which has separate mic attachments for gaming and mobile devices ).
The drivers used are moderately sensitive and functional within the housing , but are certainly capable of better performance . The housing could be what is capping the entire experience or at the least not allowing the drivers to perform at their peak . Pressing the cups against your ears doesn ’ t alter the sound at all , which is typical for headphones that have obvious flaws in the driver housing . At the same time , this does suggest as well that the match here could be improved . Of course , after a while they do get a little better ( still not sure if
this is perceived or real ) and you do get some widening of the stereo image and the lower frequencies are better expressed ( As atrocious as most of it is , Trap music does bring out these qualities in these headphones ), ultimately making for a headset that definitely justifies its $ 69 price .
Overall , these are a capable set of headphones . ROCCAT has improved at what they offer at this price . These are by far the most universal and most comfortable set of ROCCAT cans I ’ ve ever used . Be it outside on the street or when you ’ re playing your 11th hour of whatever game . You ’ ll not regret buying the ROCCAT CROSS . If anything , this makes me excited for what else ROCCAT is going to produce after this set at say $ 129 or so . For a MSRP of $ 70 , you won ’ t really find matching quality anywhere else .
