here’s always a real danger
in starting a review with the
what you think is wrong with
a product. It’s an obvious and well
documented human behavior. It’s
a lot more detailed than this, but
it’s about first impressions and it
is as relevant to products as it is to
people.
So what does this have to do
with the notebook? Well, it’s
simply because the P57X v6 is
a rough diamond. It’s certainly
got some admirable qualities,
but they are betrayed by some
oversights. Fortunately, overall,
you’re still looking at a worthwhile
product, even if it is one that
has been sacrificed by some
shortsightedness.
The first of these is the inclusion
of a D-sub VGA port, while omitting
DisplayPort or mini-DisplayPort
connectivity. There could be many
reasons for this, and one must
sympathize with the platform locked

nature of notebooks. However, given
that the INTEL iGP and discreet
GPU both support more than a
single digital output, it’s odd to find
this one d-Sub connector at the
exclusion of one that is far more
relevant.
We also have the weight and
thermal considerations with this
notebook. Aesthetically one could
never fault it. It’s restrained in
design but never boring. It is for the
most part a handsome notebook
that is equally adept at a BYOC
LAN as it would be in an office
environment. It is though a whole
6.83lbs or 3.1kg if you will. That
makes it one of the lightest 17”
notebooks with a GTX 1070, if not eh
lightest. However, consider that the
15.6” ROG GL502VS is only 2.34kg,
there’s a real possibility of shedding
some weight here. As it stands
though GIGABYTE is winning the
weight war.
As for the thermal considerations,
