Arlington HS Hosts Student Leadership Convention

Over 800 student council leaders and their faculty advisors from across Tennessee gathered at Arlington High School for the 70th Tennessee Association of Student Councils Convention . Arlington High School Student Government Association won the bid to host this three-day event at last year ’ s convention . Seniors Ronald Young and Molly Lukas co-chaired and led the planning effort for the convention .
Young was recognized with the Dale Hawley Award for Student Leadership . Lukas was honored as Member of the Year . Arlington High School Student Government Association earned the 4-Star Council Award for Excellence .

formed the interior of Arlington High School into a Memphis showcase featuring student-created backgrounds ranging from Jerry ’ s Sno Cones , Sun Studio , and even a replica of the Bass Pro Pyramid .
In addition to workshops on leadership and performing community service for St . Jude Children ’ s Research Hospital , general sessions featured several well-known leaders and speakers . Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell opened the
convention . Tennessee State Senator Mark Norris addressed students . Motivational speakers Reggie Dobbs and Mark Anthony Garrett inspired students to show love for each other and never quit on themselves . Sunday morning Coach Casey Nelson led a nondenominational service where he inspired students to break barriers and be leaders , including a demonstration of breaking bricks .
The Tennessee Association of Student Councils ( TASC ) is an organization whose purpose is to promote the student council movement in the state of Tennessee . TASC strives to further leadership training and good citizenship for the individual student .

Another goal of the organization is to provide a platform for student leaders and their adult mentors to share ideas as they work together to motivate and inspire each other to make a positive difference in their local schools and communities through quality leadership . ecs HARDING U

Hunter Childress of Lakeland signed a National Letter of Intent on February 1st to play baseball at Harding University . Hunter is a senior at Evangelical Christian School and the son of Mike and Nancy Childress of Lakeland .
AHS Students Honored for Artistic Acheivement

Arlington High School artists took home 39 Awards at the 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards including the Printmaking Award , 6 Gold Keys , 9 Silver Keys , 27 Honorable Mentions , 6 award winning student portfolios , and 6 scholarship offers . The winners of Categories and Gold Key works were on display at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art from January 28th , 2017 – February 26th , 2017 .
