For the second year in a row, March came in like a lion to 38002. But after an icy, sleety February,
area residents were finally treated to several inches of snow. Photographer Fannie Eavenson of
Arlington captured the stillness and beauty of Arlington’s Historic Depot Square, looking east on
Walker Street.
Date Set for City of Lakeland Special Election
Bond Issue Referendum to be Held April 16
By Terry Louderback
At a special called
meeting on February 19,
and after a call in to the
election commission to
clarify some of the requirements surrounding
early voting, the Lakeland
Board approved a resolution requesting that the
date for the election be set
for April 16.
Lakeland voters will be
asked to “Vote Yes” or
“Vote No” to allow the
City of Lakeland to issue
up to $50,000,000 in
general obligation school
bonds to finance the con-
struction of the proposed
Lakeland Prep 6-12 Middle/High School.
While voting on election day will occur at
regular polling places, the
BOC selected Lakeland
Elementary as the site for
early voting, in part to
encourage participation
from parents of school
aged-children, according
to Lakeland Mayor Wyatt
Bunker.
Early voting will be
held from March 27
through April 11th, Monday through Saturday, ,
from 8:00 am until 6:00
pm, with the exception of
Good Friday. There will
not be any early voting at
the downtown Memphis
location.
At Lakeland Elementary School, all voters will
enter the driveway just
east of the school building
(to the right when facing
the school) leading to the
faculty/staff parking lot.
Directional signs will be
posted and visible from all
sides of Oak Seed Lane.
The 35 parking spaces
closest to the gymnasium
will be blocked off and
reserved for voters during
the school day.
During the hours of
8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
(student arrival) and 3:45
p.m. – 4:15 p.m. (student
dismissal), school personnel will assist with directing traffic and ensuring a
smooth voting experience.
The deadline to register
to vote in the special election is March 18. For
more information or to
