service, books to San Jose public school

Holy Family students learn about Catholic
social teaching by reaching out to neighbors
Charitable outreach to people in
need is an important focus for students
at Holy Family School (San Jose). On
Oct. 4 the school kicked off their annual
collection for outreach programs. Each
class adopts an outreach organization
and collects items for their particular
organization.

he Valley Catholic
Service is a core value at Sacred Heart
School in Saratoga. As the culminating
event of a school-wide supply and book
drive, more than 50 students from the
Helping and Leading Others (HALO)
service club delivered books and school
supplies to Washington Elementary
School in the San Jose Unified School
District, Oct. 16. Sacred Heart students
read to and played with the kindergarteners.
Students and families at Sacred Heart
collected boxes of school supplies and
gently used books to donate. “It is great
to see everyone helping for such a great
cause,” a school parent commented.
All of Sacred Heart’s service organizations took part: Christian Living,
One Heart, and HALO. The One Heart
students decorated the classroom collection boxes and created bookmarks.

distributed them to the kindergarteners

Elwin, a sixth grader new to the
school, said “My favorite part of this
visit was spending time reading to the
kindergarteners.” One parent volunteer
described the joy when the kindergarteners learned they could keep all the
school supplies and the books.

SCHOOL in Sunnyvale raised funds for
their school, Oct. 10 as they joined with
staff and parents for the annual Walk-aFun, one of the school’s largest fundraisers in which pledges from neighbors,
friends and family members are collected.
