Diocese of San Jose Welcomes More Than 1,200 People to Confi rmation Conference 2017

The response to confirming the presence of God in their lives was proof of the power of the Holy Spirit .
On March 18 , the Diocese of San Jose welcomed more than 1,200 teens and chaperones to its Confirmation Conference 2017 held at Mount Pleasant High School in San Jose . The event was hosted by the Diocese ’ s Department of Youth and Young Adults .
The theme of the second Annual Conference was “ Becoming a Gift to the World ,” and is intended to stir the desire within the young Church to be a strong witness of Christian life through action and words , enlightened by wisdom , understanding , counsel , fortitude , knowledge , piety , and fear of the Lord . The hope was that each teen would recognize that they are a gift from God and a gift to one another . Empowered by the Gifts of the Holy Spirit , teens were challenged to live as faithful witnesses to the Gospel and use their gifts to build the kingdom .
“ It was inspiring to see the young people acknowledge their gift from God ,” said Robbie Ocampo , Assistant Director for Youth and Young Adults . “ It is a gift to and from them from
God . It is amazing to see when they acknowledge it because it makes the world a better place .”
The day began with an engaging Mass , celebrated by Monsignor Francis V . Cilia , Vicar General for the Diocese , and was followed by a keynote address given by Eric Buell , a captivating and gifted speaker who currently serves as a Religious Studies teacher at Presentation High School .
“ Being true to one self is very important ,” said Cilia , referring to the Gospel about the Prodigal Son . “ Just as the Fathers ’ love for the boy , who wanted his father ’ s money , God ’ s love has no boundaries . It ’ s his nature to love .”
