MEMBER NEWS Zellmer, LLC Teams Up with Poplar Bluff Athletic Department Z ellmer, LLC hosted an all-day Eat Wings, Raise Funds (EWRF) event for the Poplar Bluff Athletic Department, Wednesday, Feb. 24. The partnership between BWW and the Poplar Bluff Athletic Department began when then general manager, now regional manager, Becky Johnson began fostering a relationship between the organizations in 2008. Johnson is a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School and worked to build this mutually beneficial sponsorship by coordinating food and gift card donations, participating in tailgates, providing sponsorship of the annual Show-Me Show Down Basketball Tournament and co-developing an Athlete of the Week program. “When I was the general manager, I worked directly with the Poplar Bluff athletic director who would send me the names of two athletes from that week who had excelled in their sport. They would come to BWW to take their picture that we then posted on our ‘Athlete of the Week’ board in our entryway and would receive a $25 gift card. This program has since been taken over by the Poplar Bluff Booster Club but originated with BWW,”said Johnson. From the Athlete of the Week program to providing food to the coaches, BWW has been historically active in sponsoring the Poplar Bluff Athletic Department. However, this was the first EWRF event BWW held for the organization. Because of this, it was also the department’s opportunity to give back to B-Dubs® for their incredible support throughout the years. Kent Keith, director of athletics for Poplar Bluff, sent an email that included a digital flier of the EWRF event to over 1,000 people a week before and the day of the event. To further help market the event, BWW provided EWRF fliers for the cheerleaders to hand out during the last basketball home game, which was also Senior Night. They also provided mini basketballs BWW Poplar Bluff General Manager Rachel Crockett with the BWW logo imprinted on them for fans and families to presents the check from the EWRF event for the Poplar enjoy. The cheerleaders threw Bluff Athletic Department to out the basketballs during the its director, Kent Keith. game time-outs and halftime, which were good for a free snack of boneless wings at BWW Poplar Bluff. Many attended the EWRF, including Poplar Bluff Superintendent of Schools Chris Hon, High School Athletic Director Kent Keith, high school soccer and baseball coach Steve Edwards, and over 25 teachers and their families, as well as several high school athletes and their families. Through the EWRF in support of Poplar Bluff athletics, the department received 10 percent of sales for that day, resulting in a donation of over $250! “We want our communities to know they can count on B-Dubs for support. EWRF is a great partnership for us to help our local organizations raise money,”said Zellmer, LLC franchisee Bill Zellmer.
