Meet Your Newest FBS Board of Directors Members A s a result of the staggered terms set forth in the association’s bylaws, there are three outgoing members of the FBS board of directors this year. FBS greatly appreciates the time and energy Dick Andrews, Jim Carmody and Doug Davis have spent over the years developing and executing initiatives to benefit the membership and thanks them for their service. Three new board members were elected during the 2015 FBS Business Summit in Reno, Nevada, and we’d like to introduce them to you: Name: Brian Carmody Chief Operating Officer Company: J.K. & T. Wings Inc. No. of Units: 41 Year entered the system: 1994 Names of business partners: Jim Carmody, Kent Ward, Tim Ward, Mona Ward, Mike Bailey, Pat Lennox and Harry Kokkinakis How/why did you get into the system? I graduated from Ferris State University in June 1994 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. Instead of taking a job with Enterprise Rent-ACar, I decided to work with my dad and his partner Kent to sell wings and beer. We opened our first store in December 1994 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. What is your favorite thing about the brand? My favorite thing about the BWW brand is the people that stand behind it and for it. I have been fortunate to work with some very talented people over the years of being in business. These team members, fellow franchisees and corporate personnel have taught me something new each day and with this knowledge it has given me the ability to make a difference and for that I am very grateful. 2015 Issue 4 | THE SCORE 16 What do you look forward to accomplishing while serving on the board? I look forward to identifying and sharing the concerns of our business and our brand and working with the team to help provide solutions to the concerns that will protect the franchisee community moving forward. In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge currently facing franchisees? The changing landscape related to employment issues are eroding our control over our businesses and the ability to efficiently manage and operate profitable operations such as the NLRB joint-employer standard, healthcare reform, tipped employee class action suits, mandatory paid sick leave, mandatory breaks and the expense of HR/payroll systems to track and manage changes with each of those. In your opinion, what is the most valuable benefit franchisees receive as members of FBS? The most valuable benefit FBS members receive is the ability to capitalize on many years of common business experience among the members, share ideas that can benefit the entire group and take advantage of financial saving through the buying power. The second most valuable benefit of the FBS is that it allows you to talk to people that do the same thing as you each day, which reassures you that you are not the on
