Philanthropy in Action by Kristen Perez P hilanthropy can be defined as the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the generous donation of money to good causes. However, philanthropic endeavors are much more involved than this simple definition allows for and the people who actively engage themselves in such efforts deserve recognition. Many Buffalo Wild Wings® franchisees are involved with different philanthropic organizations. Whether they are sponsoring a charity golf event, participating in a walk or going so far as to shaving one’s head in solidarity with children going through chemotherapy, the end goal is the same; to provide aid to those in need and increase social awareness of important issues. Celebrating the gift of Down syndrome 2015 Issue 2 | THE SCORE 18 Derby Management Company, owned by Larry Podlogar and Eric Titus, is one of the FBS member companies who support an organization called Angels in Disguise. Angels in Disguise is a Louisville, Kentucky, organization created in 2008 with a mission to celebrate the gift of Down syndrome. The charity began as a classical concert the Michalak family held in honor of and gratitude for their daughter. It has since grown into a cause, promoting Down syndrome awareness and celebrating the gifts of these individuals. Having partnered with the Michalaks for previous charity initiatives, Derby Management has been involved with Angels in Disguise from the very beginning. When the Michalaks legally organized their charity, Buffalo Wild Wings® became a primary sponsor of the organization’s annual Tee It Up FORE! Down syndrome charity golf scramble. Additionally, they sell “halos”in their restaurants during the month of June as a pinup promotion and sponsor several Eat Wings, Raise Funds events to support the cause.
