n Muncie, Indiana, the local
school board voted in August to
limit Muncie Community School
part-time staffers to working no more
than 29 hours a week. The owner of five
BURGER KING® franchises in North
Carolina said he may be forced to shift
many workers to under 30 hours a
week. And an IHOP franchise owner in
Terre Haute, Indiana, said some restaurant owners have worried about how
they will continue to offer health care
insurance.
We are a stronger country when
people have access to quality, affordable
health care. More Americans are getting
access to health care under the Affordable Care Act, but there are still issues we
need to address. Some on the left say we
should not change anything and others
on the right say we should repeal the
whole bill. I believe we can address challenges with the Affordable Care Act in a
constructive way by working in a bipartisan manner to improve parts of the law
that need fixing while keeping the parts
that work so the law works better for
American families and businesses. The
law should reflect the reality and challenges employers across the country face
every day—and that starts with defining
full-time work.
