before their short-haul flights in North America started service to Las Vegas , San Juan and St Croix from Europe . In August 2016 Norwegian announced that they would be starting flights to Boston from Copenhagen , Oslo and London . In February 2016 Norwegian announced that they would commence flights between Paris and the States . The plan for Paris was very similar to how they started their long haul flights from London with the same destinations but a small change in the amount of frequencies . They started flights from Paris to New York , Los Angeles and Fort-Lauderdale . These flights also ended up being a success and increased their market share in France . In September 2016 Norwegian decided that from June 2017 they will base 2 Boeing 787 ’ s and commence flights between Barcelona and Fort-Lauderdale , Oakland and San Fransisco and Los Angeles and Newark . Today Norwegian flies to 10 american cities and operates 82 weekly flights to the United States . In 2017 Norwegian will receive nine B787-9s which means for sure more expansions announcements will come within the following months . Many rumors are going around the aviation community on what they will announce next but we will have to wait and see . This is creating a lot of fright for the American and European carriers have been tremendously affected by Norwegian commencing flights to the United States . Prices across the atlantic have dropped by half and have caused Norwegians competitors to have lower loads then what they would usually have . Their competitors will take Norwegians routes announcements very seriously due to the fact that it has already been hurting them negatively in a serious way . United and Delta have announced that for 2017 they will be announcing a “ Basic fare ” to try to lure customers back from their competitors . Until now Norwegian cannot be stopped and much expansion from them should be expected . Norwegians success in the United States lies in very low fares and a good amount of quality for the price which attracts many passengers and has been increasing tourism in the likes of Scandinavia and the French West Indies .
