All the sections have now enrolled, with good numbers attending. During the summer as well as the usual years planning, five of the Senior boys were training for their Duke of Edinburgh Silver hike which they are going to do in September near Aberfoyle. We were out at Loch Doon in early August and also going down to Glen Trool for their main practice at the of end of August. Their preparation also included Sunday nights for going over route work, map reading, compass/bearing work, first aid, safety, cooking, camp craft and so the list goes on. Our Junior Section during the summer had a wee trip down to New Cumnock open air swimming pool. Something we had tried to arrange during the session but due to a short summer season we could only go in August. Ten in total attended and we had a great day including playing a water version of Danish Longball! It was a good wee day out with even stopping for pool side snacks half way through the afternoon. A lesson learned by our Captain is that after the snack you should really leave your wallet in your bag and not in your swimming shorts pockets… much to the amusement of the boys of course! Even a couple of heavy rain showers didn’t dampen their spirits. Our Company/Seniors also recently attended the Rok outdoor centre, Whithuagh Park, Newcastleton (Scottish Borders) where the boys enjoyed a really busy weekend, with Zip Wire, Mountain Biking and gorge walking, Along with this we even had a couple of hours with hired inflatables! All our programmes for the year are now planned out. Our numbers are steady but we are always keen to get new recruits on board for all sections. Our Junior Section run a 'Bring a Friend Night' (This will be the 3rd year we have run this) and it’s a good opportunity for the boys to show their friends what they do and hopefully encourage them to join. So far we have had 4 new recruits as a direct result of these nights. If you require any information on the Company, or joining details, contact W. Campbell (07932 540097) or any other staff member.
