6 To place editorial email [email protected] a small piece of stewarton in the usa by adam lyon When Stewarton Academy 6th year student Ewan Lancaster steps on a flight to the USA at the end of August, he will be taking the biggest jump of his life so far. He is not going there on holiday, but is in fact continuing his education in the Big Apple, New York. Specifically, he will be undertaking a basketball scholarship at The Hun School of Princeton in New Jersey, a stone’s throw from New York City. I caught up with the 6’6” 17 year old as he made his final preparations for his giant leap ‘across the pond’. ewan lancaster how di d you fir s t come ac ros s th e c h a n c e to study in a m e r ica ? wh at a r e yo u lo o k i n g fo r wa r d to m o s t a b o u t s t u dy i n g i n am eri ca? The chance of studying in America first came to me in the summer of 2013 after competing in the European Championships in Gibraltar. I was approached by a school in Boca Raton, Florida and also by a school in New Jersey. We have stayed in contact ever since. I am looking forward to both the basketball and academic opportunity. Princeton was unbelievable. The facilities, people, students and faculty were beyond expectations and I could not have been made more welcome. The next day we flew to Miami to explore my second school in Boca Raton. It was a very different atmosphere, in terms of heat, size and layout, but it was equally as unbelievable. Both schools had incredible facilities and very dedicated staff. I returned knowing I wanted to have that experience. how di d you decide be t we en th e t wo sc h ool s?
