The boys are back with another
challenge! Last year a group of
local lads climbed Ben Nevis
to raise over £500 for Yorkhill
Children's Charity and were
very grateful for everyone's
donations. This year, they thought
they would step it up
a notch... or 2,
making it up 3
mountains in
just 24 hours!
On the 5th
of June, their
7 members;
Colin
Heath, Chris
McCluskie,
Gordon McKie, Allan
Kirkwood, Jamie Kerr, Jamie
Stuart and Rab Reid, climbed
Ben Nevis (the highest summit
in Scotland), Scafell Pike (the
highest summit in England) and
Snowdon (the highest summit in
Wales).
Collectively this is known
as the National Three Peaks
challenge and covers 40kms and
involves 2,984m of ascent and
descent. It consisted of a trek
up Ben Nevis in the evening
(1700), Scafell Pike in the dark
(0400) and finished with a
midday ascent to the summit of
Snowdon! Impressively this was
all completed within 21.5 hours,
despite the horrendous weather
conditions.
This year the group's chosen
charity is The Ayrshire Hospice
who care for adults in Ayrshire
and Arran with life-limiting
illnesses. This is a free service
provided to patients,
however £4m
must be raised
each year to
keep it going,
and this
ambitious
group
of friends
thought it a very
worthwhile cause to
donate to!
The boys would like to give a
massive thanks to Arnold Clark
who generously agreed to lend
them a minibus for this event free
of charge and Andrew Reid who
did all the driving. Jobs & Co
kindly purchased Under Armour
tops for all the team and Ikonic
Print provided sponsorship
and shirt/banner printing. Also
supporting the boys were ABP
Signs, The Chip Box, Re-energy
and many friends and family.
Sponsorship money is still being
gathered together and so a total
is yet to be announced bu Ё
