St. Columba's Parish Church held its annual Summer Holiday Club for children in early August when over 70 children attended - bringing lots of parents with them, for this year’s was a very different style of Club. Billed as Messy Family Fun, parents were actively encouraged to come along with younger siblings of the primary schoolchildren. This meant various new challenges had to be met, taking in account a wider than usual age-spread with its variety of expectations. It worked well. All who attended enjoyed taking part in the daily programme of games, crafts, music, aerobics, film clips, storytime and refreshments.  This year we put out feedback forms encouraging families to mark us of out 5 in five different categories and to tell us what they each got out of the experience. The response was mainly very positive. There is strong interest among the families in being part of a monthly "Messy Church" mid-week after school event which we hope to progress this autumn. One of the older boys chose to decorate his Messy Family Fun Tee Shirt with his 'feed-back' slogan "Summer Club Rocks". That slogan said it all! The Holiday Club All-Age Celebration Service in Church was highly participative and ended with cake and juice - and the surprise presence of a bouncy castle in the Church Hall.
