The tournament is held to raise funds for victims of the 2004 tsunami and to promote football in the local area. It is held in a different location every year and this year it was in Phuket. in the typical Scottish weather can prepare you for playing in the heat and humidity of Thailand! Thank goodness I packed my sun hat! Meeting and playing against the different nations was a personal highlight for me.' Scotland were drawn in a group with Italy, Thailand and Australia. They beat Italy 4-0 in their first game before losing 1-0 to Thailand and 1-0 to Australia in two hard fought games. These results unfortunately meant they failed to qualify for the semi finals. In a close game, Scotland finished the tournament on a high and beat Taiwan 2-1 to secure 5th place. Iran won the tournament, beating host nation Thailand 2-0 in the final. As well as competing in the tournament, the players also took part in coaching sessions with the local school children. This gave players the opportunity to share their skills and knowledge and to distribute footballs, tracksuits and t-shirts. Brian particularly enjoyed meeting and spending time with the children and young people, calling it a very different and rewarding experience. The youngsters were very enthusiastic during the training sessions and extremely grateful for the gifts they received. Brian says, 'The tournament was an amazing experience and I enjoyed playing for Scotland but the local weather conditions took some getting used to - no amount of junior football Brian would like to extend his thanks to all individuals and companies that sponsored him to take part, he had a great time representing his country and would love to go back in future years!
