World Cup Hope for Scotland... and Stewarton! Stewarton’s Brian Hewitt has been picked to represent Scotland in the Seniors World Cup on June 1st - 6th in Phuket, Thailand this year. This is a great achievement for the goalkeeper who plays for Dalry Thistle Juniors, having previously played for Irvine Meadow and Neilston. Brian will just be making it into the age bracket for the Seniors when he turns 40 in April! Dream Trip for Under 10’s Stewarton Annick’s 2005’s PDA team will be heading to Disneyland, Paris in the Easter Holidays this year for the ESF International Youth Festival of Football. 2015 will be the sixth year of the festival in which teams from France, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Turkey and Brazil have participated in the past. The boys will be staying in log cabins at the Davy Crockett ranch in Disneyland and will have the opportunity to enjoy all that the park has to offer when they are not on the pitch. The cost of the trip has been fully covered by fundraising and grants (totalling over £6,000) which both the team and coaches Cameron Carmichael and Michael Cherry have been working tirelessly at over the past year. Fundraisers include many a supermarket bag packing, scratch cards sales, a race night, Christmas dance and the upcoming tribute night featuring Robbie Williams, Michael Buble and the Blues Brothers. For tickets email Cameron at [email protected]. Good luck boys... from all at The Review! In 2014 England took home the trophy with Scotland coming second. Every national team will be allocated a primary school which they attend and run football coaching session for in Thailand. Each player has the task of raising £1000 to cover the costs of the trip so Brian will be thinking up some fundraising ideas in the near future. If you would like to help him in any way, email him at [email protected] Good luck Brian and we look forward to featuring your trip in our Autumn issue!
