summer of fun a roaring success
Lainshaw Lions was open every day during the summer
holidays for trips and welcomed children from not only
Stewarton schools but also from Kilmaurs, Dunlop,
Fenwick, Crosshouse and Kilmarnock. They also had visitors
who came from even further afield.
We got in touch with Margaret Campbell from the outof-school care Lainshaw Lions to find out just some of the
highlights from each of the summer weeks!
week one
Week one was great fun and included visits to Millport,
North Ayrshire Council outdoor play day in Saltcoats and The Tall Ship
and Riverside Museum in Glasgow.
week two
The kids had a ball at New Cumnock outdoor swimming pool
but their highlight of the week was the water guns at the North Ayrshire
outdoor play day which cooled the children down in the heat wave.
week three
Another week of great weather saw us taking the children to
Balloch Castle and Country Park, Rouken Glen Park and Scotland Street
Museum where we visited ‘The Games We Used To Play’ exhibition.
week four On the Tuesday of this week we were at Prestwick Park and
beach for one group and the other to Eglintoun Park in Kilwinning. This
was the day the trains were cancelled due to a point’s failure. The children
were excited as the Transport Police helped and supplied taxis for our
group. Thank you to all parents for understanding that your child was late
back due to the train problem and to the children who stood patiently
waiting for the right amount of taxis to arrive. And finally thank you to
the staff for the extra support to the children and families on this day and
for staying later than planned.
week five This was a fun packed week of swimming, bowling, soft play
and a visit to the Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride.
week six
During the last week of the holidays we had a teddy bears
picnic at Dundonald Castle, visited the Police Museum in Glasgow then
Cowan park and even had our own Barbeque at Irvine Beach. Beef and
quorn burgers were served as well as each child toasting mallows. On the
way to the beach we had a special visit from Minnie Mouse which the
children loved!
Each year we try and introduce new places and new ideas. When
asking for feedback from the children about their favourite trips
swimming was the favourite. Our children numbers attending has been
at an all-time high and we have had extra summer staff to cover our
ratios. Booking is essential due to numbers being high as we are now
averaging 30 children a day. We can take 50 children and we have had
to say we are full a few days this summer so for next summer please
book early! We also have a new email address
[email protected] and if you want
any information and our phone number
is 07891865521 and speak to Margaret or
any other staff member.

Lainshaw Lions has also a new venture which is in
partnership with Money Face. They are running a crèche
in the Sports Centre for one or two hours, whichever is
required. This runs four days a week from 10.30am until
12.30pm but they have big plans to open all-day before too
long. Parents can either drop in or book in advance.
