He has already surpassed 600 consecutive days and is well on his way to reaching his end goal of 710 days. We caught up with Ewen to find out more about how he is getting on... What made you decide to do this? First and foremost I was initially inspired to exercise by the amazing events of the London Olympics. I was also motivated by the desire to set a good example for my family, and in particular for my kids. Why did you decide to raise money for SportsAid Scotland? As I watched the Olympics I realised that my chance to compete at such a spectacle had more than likely passed but as I formulated my challenge I thought that it would be appropriate to put my efforts towards supporting young Scottish athletes. How have you managed to avoid missing a day over the last two years? I had a contingency which would require me to donate £1 for each day lost to illness/injury but thankfully I’ve not had to do that yet! How do you find the time to fit in all your exercise? The most important factors which have allowed me time to exercise have been an understanding wife, a dishwasher and home delivery shopping! What have you learned from your challenge? My attitude to exercising has definitely changed. Previously, if I had wanted to find an excuse not to exercise then I would have found it. Now, if I want to find a reason to exercise I think that will be easier to do. Also that the weather is fairly irrelevant as there is always something you can do to stay fit. What has been your best moment in the last two years of sport? The standout moment was meeting the distance running legend Haile Gebrselassie before the Great Scottish Run last year. I did feel bad for hijacking his warm up for a photo but he went on to win in record time! What are you most looking forward to once your challenge is over? A day off more than anything! In saying that I am already signed up to take part in my first marathon in September so I will have to start training again the day after my day off ! What is your fundraising target and how can readers sponsor you? My fundraising target is £3210, which is almost in sight, and I am hoping that my challenge, the work of SportsAid Scotland, and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will encourage people and businesses to support our aspiring young athletes.
