Community Council News

Stewarton Community Council is looking for local people to become Community Councillors , and help make a difference to our community .
The Community Council is a group of people who give their time to , and have a genuine interest in , the well-being of their community . It is a public representative body and acts as a voice for local residents and the business community . The Community Councillors care about the community and the town , and want to make Stewarton a better place for all residents , local businesses and traders . The monthly meetings are attended by East Ayrshire Councillors and Community Police Officers , and so there are many opportunities to discuss all the local issues .
Community Councils act as a voice for their local area , and foster community spirit . They express the views of the whole community to East Ayrshire Council and liaise with the many other bodies involved in Stewarton life . The Community Council provides the means whereby local people can voice their opinions on any matter affecting their lives , their welfare , their environment , new developments and local amenities . In particular , Community Councillors put forward their views on local planning applications , and on which premises in their area are licensed to sell alcohol . The Community Council also manages a Resource Centre , the Community Bus and the Stewarton Rambler Chair charity fund .
It is not a huge time commitment . The Stewarton Community Council meets in the Town House Council Chamber , 8 Avenue Square , Stewarton at 7.30pm on the first Monday of each calendar month ( except July ), with the meetings lasting about 2 hours .
Further information is available from the Stewarton Community Council Resource Centre in the Town House , 8 Avenue Square , Stewarton . It is open Monday to Friday between 1000 and 1200 , Tel : 01560 482775 or Email : stewartoncc @ tiscali . co . uk
