the bonnet guild is delighted to announce the corsehill queen and her court for 2016 . the corsehill queen will be hannah mackenzie and this year ’ s first courtier will be logan morrison .

All chosen from second year pupils by Stewarton Academy ( with the exception of the two Pages and Queen ’ s Highlander who are chosen by the local primary schools ) the full court is as follows ; Corsehill Queen Hannah Mackenzie , 1st Maid Karen Shepherd , 2nd Maid Alice Brazier , Maids : Joanna Niven , Faye Ronald , Cerys Dunn & Emma Hewitt . First Courtier Logan Morrison , 2nd Courtier Jonathan Houson , Herald Ewan Williamson , Sword Bearer Scott Blelloch , Crown Bearer Ross Muir , Sceptre Bearer Jamie Smith , Queen ’ s Highlander Fraser Filby , Pages Zak McKenzie and Adam MacNee . All pupils are currently in second year at Stewarton Academy with the exception of the two Pages who are in Primary 3 at Nether Robertland Primary and the Queen ’ s Highlander who is in Primary 7 at Lainshaw Primary The coronation will take place in its traditional location on Avenue Square on Gala Day Saturday , 18 June . In the event of wet weather the crowning will be moved indoors to the Area Centre , just off Avenue Square . This year ’ s 83rd Bonnet Guild festival week will run from Saturday 11 June to Sunday 19 June 2016 with the highlight of the week , the crowning of the Corsehill Queen taking place on Gala Day , Saturday , 18 June in Avenue Square , Stewarton . Gordon Bennett said : “ This year marks the 83rd Bonnet Guild festival and we are looking forward to the forthcoming festival week . Preparations are well underway and celebrations will commence with traditional bunting being hung along the main streets of Stewarton at the beginning

of the week , and will finish with the parade to the war memorial and divine service on Sunday 19 June . The “ Once upon a time ” theme for the decorated shop window displays and float parade on Saturday 18 June , is sure to be one of the most colourful and anticipated parts of the week and we are hoping for record participation in this our 83rd year ! The eagerly anticipated festival returns with a week of the usual fun , games and activities planned , for all ages to enjoy . The traditional torchlight procession , which was revived in 2013 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Bonnet Guild , will return again , taking place on Saturday 11 June this year . The procession will commence at 10pm with torches being sold from 9.30pm at Cunningham Watt Park , Dean Street Entrance . The parade will then walk from Dean street – High Street – Main Street – Lainshaw Street – David Dale Avenue and enter Lainshaw Woods where the Bonfire will be lit .. Wax torches will be on sale to over 18 ' s for £ 4.00 and high intensity glow sticks to under 18 ' s for £ 2.50 . Participants are asked to adhere to the following health and safety rules ; good conduct is required . Only official torches are allowed in the procession . All wax torches must be placed in the braziers at the finish on arrival . Please don ’ t wear good clothes as wax can drip from torches . The Bonnet Guild festival began in 1933 and was originally created by local businessmen in Stewarton to provide a summer gala day for local families . Today , it is a week-long community festival , run by volunteer members of the Bonnet Guild – a non-profit organisation . All proceeds raised from this year ’ s festival will go towards ensuring the local festival will return next year for the whole community to enjoy once again .
