CrossFit Stewarton...
Creating a Community
crossfit has finally arrived in the bonnet town, with
crossfit stewarton officially opening its doors to the
public in january 2016. despite its rapidly increasing
popularity, this fitness phenomenon still remains a
mystery to many. so, what exactly is crossfit?
I’ve been asked that question a lot recently, and I’m still not quite
sure how to respond.
Certainly, I could point out how the unique combinations of
weightlifting, gymnastics and cardiovascular movements forge a
well-balanced fitness capacity. I could talk about the constantly
varied workouts that ensure no two days are the same. I could even
explain how CrossFit now exists as a fully-fledged sport in its own
right; with live television coverage, millions of dollars in prizemoney
and numerous illustrious sponsorships.
Yet despite this seemingly succinct definition, anybody currently
working out at a CrossFit gym will know that something’s missing
– something of the utmost importance. Community. CrossFit is all
about community.
At CrossFit Stewarton, we are fortunate enough to host an
incredibly diverse fitness community. A small minority of our
members have successfully dedicated themselves to competing in the
sport of CrossFit. Yet on the other hand, we have new mums who
are on a mission to reclaim their pre-baby bodies. We have office
workers who combat their sedentary occupation through a fierce
commitment to exercise. We have fitness fanatics who simply love
to push their limits on a daily basis. We have competitive athletes,
who use CrossFit to complement their sport specific training. And
perhaps most importantly of all, we have those who train to retain
strength and mobility as they age.
All of these groups train for different reasons, yet form one
community, and share one common goal; self-improvement. No
matter the difference in age, gender or experience, all our members
train together – and the last one to finish is always guaranteed the
loudest cheer!

but wait, what if i’m too old for crossfit?
I hear this all the time, and it’s a valid question. Consider this; the needs
of an elite athlete and those of an aging pensioner differ by degree, not by
kind. One needs strength to hurl a javelin, and the other needs strength to
carry shopping and safely navigate stairs. Does your gran need to train like
an Olympian? No, but she would benefit from the increased bone density
that results from resistance training, or postural improvements that ease
her back pain. There is a widespread belief that lifting weights is dangerous.
This couldn’t be further from the truth; being weak is dangerous.
similarly, are you concerned that you’re too
unfit to start crossfit?
Newsflash; you’re not, so you’d better think of another excuse to stay on
the couch. All of our workouts are led by a fully qualified coach, and class
sizes are strictly limited to ensure an optimal learning environment. Our
workout of the day is designed to illicit continuous progress in all aspects
of fitness, including strength, endurance and power. These workouts are
infinitely scalable, so can be tailored to accommodate a large variety of
fitness abilities.
what about women, can they do crossfit too?
The answer to this is a resounding yes. Somehow, miraculously, CrossFit has
tricked women into playing the iron game. For the first time ever, women
are lifting weights, and not the m [
