SE Wales celebrations
D avid Prichard
from the Ordinariate
group in the SE of Wales reports that on Laetare
Sunday, 26th March, they celebrated their recent move
from the Metropolitan Cathedral of St David in Cardiff
to the lovely 19th century church of St Basil and St
Gwladys, Rogerstone, on the outskirts of Newport.
For the celebration they were delighted to welcome
at the Solemn Mass, Mgr Keith Newton as celebrant
and preacher, who joined Fr Bernard Sixtus, the
Group Pastor, and Fr Len Black from the Ordinariate
in Scotland. Fr Len and his wife Ruth happened to be
in Sou th Wales that weekend for the wedding of their
son, Simon, and expressed their delight at being able
to join in the celebrations.
The main reason for the move was the fact that the
group are now able to have the Ordinariate Mass every
Sunday at 11.30am instead of just once each month
at the Cathedral. They have received a wonderful
welcome from the ‘host’ church which is part of the
Parish of All Saints’ Newport.
At the end of the special celebration Mass, after the
singing of the anthem Ave Regina Caelorum by the
