THE MASTER PAINTER AUSTRALIA 034 INSURANCE Low emissivity glass Low Eglass or Eglass Claims We at MGA Insurance Brokers have recently had several claims for damage to Eglass and believe this should be bought to the attention of the painting industry. Whilst these claims have been covered to date they could have been avoided by simply establishing if Eglass was used on site. So what exactly is Eglass and what does it mean to the painting industry. Eglass is a coating on glass which is usually applied to the external facing side of the glass. Its intention is to prevent heat in the form of infrared radiation from getting into a property, while preventing indoor heat from escaping. There are however no distinguishing markings or labeling to separate Eglass from the appearance of normal glass. So how has this affected our clients, when cutting in we understand that it is common practice to use a razor to remove paint from glass. With Eglass however this is not an option, as soon as the coating is removed the glass has to be replaced entirely. On several sites our clients have not been aware of this product and unfortunately suffered a claim as a result of what appeared to be harmless practices. We would recommend that you simply ask the owner or builder of the property if Eglass has been used as part of your due diligence. If so determine an appropriate method of cutting in on the glass panel. Proud Supporter s of MPAL
