ING TOR TION N ME BRA ELE C To celebrate their ongoing hard work and brilliant progress, students in Years 8 and 9 who work with our Learning Mentor team were taken to the Theatre Royal in Nottingham for the day. After studying the book ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time’, we went to see it brought to life on stage. The morning was spent with the cast from the National Theatre, looking at how the production is put together, how movement is used to represent props and ideas, and how actors transform into their characters. Two of our students, Matt Ventura and Ryan Wigg, bravely went up on stage with the cast, to learn and perform a scene from the play. They did brilliantly, and blended in seamlessly with the professionals! After a celebratory lunch, we returned to the Theatre Royal for the matinee performance of the production. It was a fantastic show and all of the students involved commented on how much they’d enjoyed it. Most of the students were able to use their knowledge of the book to help them interpret the play, and were fascinated by how texts are translated to the stage. Cambridge Calling On the already baking hot morning of 2nd July, 10 excited Year 11 students gathered in the Kimberley Leisure Centre car park. Full of anticipation for the day ahead, we were to visit one of the world’s top universities; Cambridge. Armed with plenty of water and sun cream, we set off for a day to remember. First of all we visited Peterhouse, the smallest and oldest of the Cambridge colleges where we received a guided tour of all the college had to offer including some surprisingly spacious accommodation! All commented on the relaxed atmosphere which was a contrast to the stuffiness of the mortarboards and black gowns we had envisaged. After an extremely informative admissions talk, we didn’t let the rain hold us back as we lunched outside the prestigious King’s College. Inside King’s we learned more about the subjects in which we were most interested and chatted to some students about their own university experiences. Despite our jam packed schedule, we managed t
