Our first lecture was by Phil Banyard, a psychology lecturer at the university. He spoke about big questions in psychology, for example ‘who am I?’ His teaching style was very interactive and enjoyable, which involved activities that really got our attention. After a short tour of the university campus, we had another lecture by a world-expert on gambling addiction, Mark Griffiths. He stated that anything can become an addiction if it has a negative impact in your life and occurs frequently. For example, it is possible to get addicted to gambling if it is something that you participate in everyday such as going to a casino, rather than taking part in the National Lottery which only occurs once or twice a week. The lecture he provided was very intriguing and informative, and it gave us an insight of what it would be like to study psychology at university. This presentation was extremely useful to us as psychology students too as it provided us with information and knowledge that is required for our A2 course next year. We definitely recommend this experience to others. Simran Basra and Sophie Limb (Year 12 Psychology students)
