Sixth Form News It has been another very busy period in the Sixth Form with more than 5 weeks of exams followed by lots of events and activities. Oxbridge Preparation: Along with the Oxbridge summer schools opportunities, we are running a trip to Oxford and to Cambridge in early July for interested students in Year 12 & 13. Exams Preparing Year 12 for University Over the past few weeks, the process of preparing students for Higher Education has begun in earnest: Higher Education Evening: As part of the preparation process for university a Higher Education Evening for parents was held on Tuesday 16th June. As part of this, the University of Nottingham gave a talk about finance and university and a talk was also given about the UCAS process. A number of ex-students came to the evening and talked about their experiences of university to date. We now have a UCAS widget on the Sixth Form website, which makes using the UCAS website easier and more accessible for students and parents. Year 12 Biology Field Trip 11 of our Year 12 students headed off on Saturday 27th to Singapore and Tioman Island for the Biology trip of a lifetime! They arrived safely in Singapore on Sunday 28th June and as this is being written, they are taking part in field work on Tioman Island - along with lots of snorkelling! They return to England on 5th July and we look forward to hearing all about their experiences. Thank You The Year 13s have had an enormously positive impact within school, as well as in the wider community, through their charity work throughout the past year. They have raised well over £5000 for good causes and, once the final charity event of the year has taken place, they should have hit their £7000 target! We are very grateful for all the efforts the members of the charity committee have put in to all the events this year. The Final Charity Event of the Year - 15th July The new Year 12 Charity Committee have already started planning for the final charity event of the year. They plan to work alongside Year 13 to raise money for the school fund as well as for victims of the Nepal earthquake. Year 13 Farewell BBQ On Wednesday 24th June, we bid a very sad farewell to our Year 13s. It has been a pleasure and a privilege for all of those staff involved with this year group to see them mature and develop over the past two years. The afternoon involved lots of food, quizzes, speeches and culminated in the premiere of the staff DVD, which we have made as a farewell gift to Year 13 (you can watch this both on the school website and in our interactive newsletter).
