6 Questions with Josh Giacalone

Midway through summer, we sat down with intern, Josh Giacalone, to get his early thoughts on what he has learned about the impact economy from his time in our community.

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Josh Giacalone and I’m currently an intern in SBN’s membership department. Although I live and attend college in Denver, I definitely consider Philadelphia my home. When the summer ends, I’ll be returning to Colorado to complete my senior year at the University of Denver with a double major in Public Policy and Political Science, and a minor in International Studies.

You could probably gather from my areas of study that I’ve had a deep interest in all things politics and government since I was in middle school. In high school, I couldn’t help but view the process of calculating derivatives as a chore. But for whatever reason, I welcomed the challenge of thinking through the causes, side effects, and solutions to complex issues like income inequality. As I learned more about the problems facing so many communities in our country, my interest evolved into a sense of purpose. In college, I’ve been exposed to the political challenges presented by climate change, and the desperate need for a focus on sustainability. While I’ve learned that no issue is truly one-sided, the imminent threats of climate change certainly make the case that this could be the exception to the rule.
