John Link ’ s paintings are born of Shakespeare . A successful Theatre Director / TV producer and acting teacher over many years and now an unashamedly self-taught painter with a fast growing reputation , his unique , colourful paintings remind us vividly of the weight of human self-awareness and the mercurial nature of created figures that come out of ‘ nothing ’ onto the stage or canvas to tell the tragicomic paradox of being human . They hold a lightness alongside an intensity . Just as Shakespeare entertains us while at the same time making a profound analysis of human life , so does Link ’ s painterly vision .
