Where to Play Nestled in the Boise foothills, Quail Hollow Golf Club is a cityowned course that features stunning views of the Treasure Valley and surrounding mountains. While the course plays at just under 6,400 yards from the back tees, the plethora of elevation changes make it a true challenge. Pictured to the left, the par-3 second hole plays 202 yards from the back tees and requires a precise shot to a narrow green guarded by bunkers. If you’re looking for a day trip, Sun Valley resort is a 2.5 hour drive from Boise and well worth the trip. The resort, which sits at nearly 6,000 feet above sea level, features an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones, Jr. course that winds below the mountainside. Where to Stay Aptly named the “Modern Hotel”, this sleek hotel has the look of a rustic lodge and was rated the top hotel in the Boise area. It’s just a 5 minute walk from Centurylink Arena (home of the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads), a 15 minute walk from the Boise Zoo and a 25 minute walk from Albertson’s Stadium (home of the Boise State Broncos). The unique characteristic about the Modern Hotel is that on any given night, locals and guests gather in its courtyard to hear musicians and writers as part of its “Campfire Stories” series. Off the Course With the college football season kicking off, a trip to Boise State University’s Albertsons Stadium is an experience you’ll never forget! The blue turf field coupled with some of the most passionate college football fans in the country make it well worth the trip. Not a football fan but looking for adventure? How about a rapid ride on the Salmon River, which eventually drops almost 3,000 feet in elevation from start to finish while ripping through 100 miles of rapids. www.csgalinks.org CSGA Links // September, 2016 | 37
