First and Twenty-Eighth
The top two players in the CSGA Senior Player of the Year Race - Dave Szewczul of
Tunxis Plantation Country Club and Bruce Kraczkowsky - both recently qualified for the
U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. For Szewczul, the USGA championship scene is no
mystery, and when he begins play at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, it
will mark his 28th USGA championship start. Szewczul, a six-time CSGA Senior Player
of the Year and 2010 inductee into the Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame, previously
advanced to the quarterfinals in the U.S. Senior Amateur in 2014.
For Kraczkowsky, who earned his first CSGA title this past June by winning the
Senior Match Play Championship at Hop Meadow Country Club, competing on the
national stage will be unfamiliar territory, as this will mark his first USGA Championship
appearance. However, as he proved earlier this season, his game is capable of competing
with the best. After all, he knocked off both Szewczul and Bill Hermanson en route to
capturing the title.
The 2016 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship begins September 17th. All 156
competitors will play 36-holes of stroke play over two days, with the low 64 players
advancing to match play.
