JUNIOR GOLF
A First: CSGA to host Junior Four-Ball Championship
T
he CSGA is proud to announce the
establishment of a new championship, the
Junior Four-Ball Championship, which will
be played for the first time at Pequabuck Golf Club
on July 16th. The first of it’s kind in Connecticut, the
Junior Four-Ball is designed to encourage junior golfers
to compete in a team atmosphere while preparing them
for other Four-Ball events, such as the Connecticut
Four-Ball Championship at Yale and the U.S. Four-Ball
Qualifier at CC of Farmington.
Eligibility for the Junior Four-Ball is limited
to amateur golfers who have not reached their 18th
birthday on or before July 16th. Only one member of
the team is required to have an active handicap index
at a CSGA member club, and the combined team
handicap index may not exceed 30.0.
The Junior Four-Ball Championship is the first
new championship added to the CSGA schedule since the
establishment of the Senior Match Play Championship
in 2007. Four-ball has become an increasingly popular
format at state and regional golf associations across
the U.S, with more than 150 Four-Ball championships
conducted across the country. The USGA will conduct
it’s first U.S. Four-Ball Championship on May 2nd - 6th
22 | CSGA Links // March, 2015
at The Olympic Club.
In addition to the Junior Four-Ball Championship,
the CSGA will conduct four other Four-Ball events The Four-Ball Championship at Yale (August 6th), the
Senior Four-Ball at Indian Hill CC (August 25th), and
two One Day Tournament Four-Ball Events (May 11th
at Chippanee and September 1st at Skungamaug River).
