81st Connecticut Open Championship
July 27th - 29th at The Patterson Club (Fairfield, Conn.)
Who Can Play: The championship is open to all CSGA amateurs who hold an
active handicap index not exceeding 6.4, Connecticut Section PGA members,
and Golf Professionals residing in Connecticut or working at CSGA member
clubs.
Last Year’s Championship: In 2014, Frank Bensel of Fairfield, Conn. fired a
final round 66 to finish at seven under-par and a two stroke victory for his
third Connecticut Open title at Rolling Hills Country Club.
One Quick Fact: Kyle Gallo and John Golden share the record for most
Connecticut Open victories with four. Frank Bensel will attempt to tie that
record this year, as he hopes to become just the twelfth player in tournament
history to siccessfully defend their title.
30th Connecticut Public Links
August 11th - 12th at Fairview Farm Golf Course (Harwinton, Conn.)
Who Can Play: The championship is open to Connecticut amateur golfers who,
since January 1st of the current year, have been bona fide public-course players,
and who hold a USGA Handicap index not exceeding 9.0.
Last Year’s Championship: After nearly twenty years of playing in CSGA
competitions, Glen Boggini of Twin Hills Country Club broke through to win his
first individual major championship, shooting a final round score of even-par 72
to capture the 2014 Connecticut Public Links.
One Quick Fact: Fairview Farm Golf Course is constructed on Delay Farm,
previously a dairy farm, with the present layout opening for play in 2000.
70th Connecticut Senior Amateur
September 21st - 22nd at Torrington Country Club (Goshen, Conn.)
Who Can Play: The championship is open to CSGA amateurs ages 55 and over who
hold an active handicap index not exceeding 14.0 (18.0 if age 65 and over).
Last Year’s Championship: In 2014, Mark Vasington of Wampanoag Country Club
fired a three under-par score of 68 in the final round to shoot a total of even-par
142 and capture the 69th Connecticut Senior Amateur at Wethersfield Country Club
One Quick Fact: Until 1996, the Connecticut Senior Amateur was held at two courses,
with one round of stroke play on each. Torrington CC previously co-hosted the Senior
Amateur in 1964, 1988, 1989 and 1993.
28th Connecticut Mid-Amateur
October 5th - 6th at Bull’s Bridge Golf Club (South Kent, Conn.)
Who Can Play: The championship is open to CSGA amateurs ages 25 and over who
hold an active handicap index not exceeding 6.4.
Last Year’s Championship: In 2014, Kevin Foster of Hop Meadow Country Club shot
rounds of 70-74-70--214 (-2) to capture the 27th Connecticut Mid-Amateur on his
home course, winning by two strokes over Philip Perry of Black Hall Club.
One Quick Fact: Bull’s Bridge Golf Club was designed by Tom Fazio and opened for
play in 2004. Since it’s inception, it has annually hosted the CSGA Tournament of
Champions and previously hosted qualifying for the Travelers Championship.
