The word “Safari” is generally not associated with South Florida, but the Safari
Wilderness Ranch in Lakeland aims to change that perception. The 260-acre
preserve is embedded in the 875 sq. mile pristine watershed that is source to
five of Florida’s finest rivers. They have two options - a guided vehicle safari
tour or a camel expedition, for those that are feeling especially adventurous.
Skeptical about the type of wildlife one might find in a Florida swamp? They’ve
got Zebra’s, Red Lechwe, ring-tailed lemurs, water buffalo and blackbuck
antelope, just to name a few.
