CSGA Announces New England Junior Team
T
he CSGA has named the seven-member squad that will represent Connecticut in the
45th playing of the New England Junior Championship, August 17 and 18. Played
at stroke play over 54 holes, the team competition brings together the region’s top
juniors representing the six New England states. Massachusetts claimed the title in 2013 played
at Connecticut National Golf Club in Putnam.
The CSGA team has won seven of the previous eleven championships, most recently in
2012. Brian Carlson of Madison and Clinton Country Club claimed individual honors in each of
the last two years.
The 2014 championship will be hosted by the Rhode Island Golf Association at Ledgemont
Country Club in Seekonk. The par 71, 6,801 yard Alfred Tull layout is considered one of the
finest private golf courses in New England.

The format of the New England Junior rewards teams
with depth and talent among their full roster, as the low
five scores per round produces the team score. The CSGA
Junior Amateur Championship winner (Evan Grenus) and
runner-up (Max Theodorakis) are automatic selections
to the Connecticut team. The remaining five players are
selected by the CSGA Junior Golf Committee based upon
tournament results in both CSGA and non-CSGA events.
To be eligible, players must not have reached their 18th
birthday by the start of the Championship.
According to CSGA Executive Director, Mike Moraghan,
“This was not an easy or clear-cut process this year. We
have a lot of competitive young players in Connecticut
right now, and many who have achieved significant
success in state, regional and national events. We gave
serious consideration to a total of fourteen players, and
examined the results of forty-one tournaments over the
past nine months.”

in the New England Junior, having been named to the
CSGA team in both 2012 and 2013. Connor O’Brien and
Nathaniel Dong return from the 2013 team to again
represent Connecticut. New to the team this year are Max
Theodorakis, Jason Liu, Andrew Sciarretta and Michael
VanDerLaan.
“We are very happy to have these young men
representing the CSGA and the State of Connecticut,”
said Moraghan. “It is a distinctive honor to be chosen
and we believe this team will represent us well at the
Championship.”
