Newsmakers Kelly Whaley Wins 2013 Connecticut Women’s Amateur Championship Kelly Whaley of TPC River Highlands captured the 2013 Connecticut Women’s Amateur at Rockledge Country Club after ?ring rounds of 71-70-70 for a ?ve under-par total of 211 to win by sixteen shots. The rising high-school junior was named the 2012 Hartford Courant Female Golfer of the Year last year, and has already had quite an impressive start to her 2013 season. Just two weeks before winning the Women’s Amateur, she captured her ?rst AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) title in Philadelphia by eleven strokes. Daniel Hendrickson wins 87th Norwich Invitational It had been twenty-?ve years exactly since Daniel Hendrickson, then of Shennecossett Golf Course, captured the inaugural Connecticut Mid-Amateur on his home course. Shortly thereafter, he left Connecticut to move to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he has lived ever since. The Waterford, Conn. native had quite a homecoming last week, scheduling his trip around the Norwich Invitational. The event is held each year at Norwich Golf Course, and is one that Hendrickson hasn’t competed in for nearly twenty years. After earning the 16th seed in match play, Hendrickson went on an impressive run, beating medalist and 2006 Palmer Cup Champion Philip Perry in the ?rst round, and eventually holding off Adam Vacarri of Torrington, 2 and 1, to win the title. Paladino Shoots 13 Under-Par to capture Wethers?eld CC Club Championship Cody Paladino continued his impressive summer by capturing the Wethers?eld CC Club Championship in record-setting fashion. Paladino shot rounds of 69-6566 for a total of 200 (13 under-par), the lowest total in the club’s elaborate history. He won by 13 shots over Evan Grenus, medalist at this year’s Connecticut Junior Amateur and winner of the 2013 Northern Junior Championship. 6 Connecticut State Golf Association
