Evan Grenus Captures 2013 Northern Junior Championship Evan Grenus of Glastonbury, Conn. added to his already impressive list of accomplishments by capturing the 2013 Stan Trojanowski Northern Junior. Grenus shot rounds of 67-72 for a total of ?ve underpar 139 and defeated fellow Connecticut resident Brian Carlson on the third playoff hole for the victory. Grenus, medalist at the 2013 Connecticut Junior, shot an opening round 67 and held the overnight lead by two shots. Among those chasing Grenus was Carlson, the two-time New England Junior Champion and top ranked junior in the ?eld. Standing in the 18th fairway one shot behind Grenus, Carlson hit his approach to within four feet and calmly rolled in his birdie putt to force a playoff. On the third playoff hole, however, it was Grenus with a chance to win. With a 20 foot birdie putt and a ?st pump, Grenus ?nally captured the Northern Junior title he’s been wanting for so long. He played incredibly steady golf the entire week, recording just one bogey in 36-holes against six birdies. The 36-hole stroke play event is contested over two days at Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, Connecticut and is open to amateur boys and girls under the age of 19 who have not entered their ?rst year of college. The Tournament Committee includes some of Connecticut’s top amateur golfers who work tirelessly each year to give back to junior gol f. The championship represents a collaboration of their experiences some of the most prestigious junior, collegiate, amateur, and professional tournaments in the world.
