“ With all the history here, having my son on the bag, it’s been a dream. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Familiar Territory for Szewczul Dave Szewczul, 59, of Farmington, Conn. successfully quali?ed for his seventh U.S. Amateur at Crestview Country Club, claiming medalist honors with a four under-par total 140. On paper, qualifying for seven U.S. Amateur’s is quite an impressive accomplishment for the 2012 CSGA Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year. However, it’s even more impressive when you consider the fact that he was the only player in the ?eld of 312 who competed the last time the tournament was held at The Country Club. Szewczul, also the oldest player in the ?eld by three years, played in the 1982 U.S. Amateur at The Country Club. He narrowly missed qualifying for match play that year after losing in a playoff for the ?nal spot to Mark Brooks (PGA Champion). Szewczul shot rounds of 75-76 (One stroke better than his total in 1982), but missed advancing to match play. Szewczul also quali?ed for this year’s U.S. Senior Amateur, which begins on September 21st at Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, North Carolina. “ Seeing The Other Side Max Adler, 26, of Norwalk, Conn. has been inside the ropes countless times. A writer and contributor for Golf Digest, Adler is known around the media as one of the industry’s most promising young stars. An avid and competitive golfer, Adler got his chance to experience the U.S. Amateur not as a media person, but as a player. He was the qualifying medalist at Shorehaven Golf Club after shooting a total of six underpar, and although he missed qualifying for match play, the experience was a memorable one. The U.S. Amateur was his second USGA event, having also quali?ed for the U.S. Public Links in 2010. “ It was the sternest, longest, but most importantly, most beautiful test of golf I’ve ever experienced.
