Rave Reviews for TCC and the Connecticut Open “Easily one of the best golf experiences of my life,” is how Fairview Farm’s PGA professional Bob Sparks described the 79th Connecticut Open Championship at Torrington Country Club, “it felt like I was playing in a Tour event.” Players, spectators and volunteers alike shared similar sentiments. Mark Moriarty, Program Director for the First Tee, who delivered a cadre of Spectators gather as the leaders approach the 18th green students to serve as standard bearers during the ?nal round, wrote, “This week was a completely different experience. In my time there on Tuesday and Wednesday I heard so many positive comments about the event, the club’s involvement and the overall experience. One long time player said it was by far the best he’d been a part of.” Rolling Hills Country Club Head Professional Ray Ford said, “from my experience it was above and beyond. My caddie even said it was like a Web.com tour event.” “The CSGA has always done a good job running championships,” said Executive Director, Mike Moraghan, “but when we can improve the overall experience for the player, and where the opportunity exists to increase participation and involvement by members of the host facility, we want to do it. Really to say Torrington’s folks were ‘involved’ would be a huge understatement. They owned it. Their passion and enthusiasm for hosting the Stat e Open was the main reason it was a big success.” Months before the Championship was played, Moraghan and CSGA Director of Operations, Ryan Hoffman, were invited to Torrington to meet with club president Michael Nejaime, head professional Glenn Carlson, nine-time club champion Dick Weigold and a number of other key Torrington members. “ It was obvious from our ?rst meeting that Torrington’s people were very motivated, and throughout the entire time they were just great to work with. - Mike Moraghan, CSGA Executive Director 16 Connecticut State Golf Association “
