In just eight years , the Golf Club at Oxford Greens has jumped to the top of everyone ’ s “ Must Play ” list . Designed by architect Mark Mungeam and opened for play in the fall of 2005 , Oxford Greens showcases the finest of New England golf . Featuring pure bentgrass tees , fairways and putting surfaces , the conditions are among the best in the state . It ’ s easy to see why Oxford Greens has already been labeled as one of the best new public courses in America by Golfweek , Golf Digest and Golfing Magazine .
The par-72 layout at Oxford Greens features holes that wind through wooded areas , natural preserves and open meadows , and provides a unique challenge for players of all abilities . From the Black Tees , it is hard to imagine a more stern test of golf , with the opening stretch of Holes # 2-4 featuring a 218 yard par-3 ( Pictured left ), a 630 yard par-5 and a 456 yard par-4 . Not to worry though , as the course has a wide selection of tees ranging from 4,982 yards to a challenging 7,147 yards .
One of the unique elements of Oxford Greens is that it combines modern technology with features from classic architects . For example , the 13th Hole , labeled “ Redan ”, is a 185 yard par-3 that is fashioned after the famous 15th hole at North Berwick , Scotland . The green is angled from right to left with a deep bunker protecting the front and left of the green .
