Christopher Swift notches first amateur win in a big way

Any professional or amateur golfer who has played competitively can attest to one simple fact : Winning is tough . As a Sophomore at Marquette University , no one understood that better than Christopher Swift . Until this past summer , his biggest win to date had come at the Country Club of New Canaan ’ s Caddy Championship .
If nothing else , that fact should prove that stats alone can be misleading . During his junior and senior year of high school , Swift was highly recruited by some of the top Division I golf schools in the country , and eventually signed a letter of intent with Marquette University . Swift had competed in some of the nation ’ s top junior and amateur events , and notched numerous high finishes . As he noted , “ I had come close many times in my junior career with six or seven top 3 finishes , but never won ”. That all changed last summer , when Christopher Swift became just the 23rd player in Connecticut history to capture the New England Amateur Championship at Falmouth Country Club in Falmouth , Maine .
His win was a decisive one at that . Swift , who entered the final day of 36-holes with a one shot lead , stayed in control the entire day , and would eventually post a 282 total ( 2-under par ) and a five stroke victory . He played the entire tournament like a seasoned veteran , and relied heavily on his driver despite the fact that Falmouth CC is littered with Hazards and Out of Bounds . “ I play aggressively and that is my style of play ”, he said . “ If I am hitting it well , I am going to pull it off ”.
